A Fun-Filled Summer in Brea

Mark your calendars for a summer filled with fun and familiar community events and activities you look forward to each year! Family Films are back starting Friday, June 16 at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center. Bring chairs and blankets to the Plaza Level on Friday nights, through July 28, for 8:00 p.m. showings. Fathers and father figures are out of this world and we want to celebrate them at the Star Wars themed Father Daughter Dance taking place on Friday, June 16 at the Brea Community Center.

Let’s have a blast honoring our nation’s independence at the 43rd annual Country Fair happening on Tuesday, July 4 at City Hall Park, from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. There is something for everyone to enjoy – from a Car Show, a kiddie parade and swimming at the Plunge. And, what better way to show your patriotic spirit than to decorate your house in red, white, and blue! The City of Brea is once again hosting its Patriotic Home Beautification Challenge, where residents decorate the outside of their homes with patriotic flair for a chance to win a prize.

Enjoy music? Concerts in the Park will take place on Wednesday evenings, July 5 – August 9, at City Hall Park. Lastly, save the date for the ever-popular Brea Fest on Friday, August 11. In addition to those events throughout the summer, lessons and recreational swimming are back at The Plunge, along with Tiny Tots, Summer Day Camp, many half-day camps, and other exciting activities for kids.

For more information on these summer activities, browse through the Summer 2023 Brea Line or visit the City’s website at cityofbrea.net.

All Fireworks are Illegal in Brea

With the 4th of July holiday next month, we want to remind you of Brea’s ban on fireworks. The sale, use, or discharge of all fireworks are prohibited in the City, even the “safe and sane” variety sold in other cities. Fireworks are dangerous and can be harmful to you, your property, and your pets. They are a serious fire hazard as sparks from fireworks can travel to nearby homes or brush and ignite a fire. With the record-breaking rainfall this past winter, Brea’s vegetation has grown and flourished. Now that the warmer seasons are upon us, the overgrown vegetation is drying and flammable. Help keep our community safe! If you are able to identify the exact location of someone using fireworks, please report it to Brea Police Department's non-emergency line at 714-990-7911. Violators face up to a $1,000 fine.

Watering Schedule for Summer

Although the winter months brought significant rainfall to our region, California continues to monitor and evaluate its precious water resources. In Brea, the watering schedule changes for the spring and summer months continues promoting water conservation. From May to September:

  • Automated irrigation is limited to three days per week: Wednesday, Friday, & Sunday.
  • Limit watering to 10 minutes per station.
  • No outdoor watering from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes

The Aedes mosquito, also known as the ankle biter, is an aggressive daytime biting mosquito. These mosquitoes currently do not transmit disease in Orange County, although they are capable of transmitting certain diseases such as Dengue, Zika and Yellow fever. Unfortunately, the Aedes or Ankle biters are invading communities all over Orange County as they continue to expand, residents are being faced with a new normal. What can you do?

The best method to reduce mosquito activity is to reduce water sources off each property. These mosquitoes breed in backyard sources such as flower pot saucers, yard drains, water-holding plants, and other small containers on the property. Please check your property weekly for standing water and eliminate that water source.
