Love Brea Returns to Connect, Unite & Serve our Community

Love Brea, the City’s popular community serve day, returns this year in a COVID-conscious format. Last year, this annual event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Love Brea will take place on four consecutive Saturdays from April 17 - May 8. Projects range from smaller service opportunities for individuals, or larger projects for groups that feel safe volunteering with one another. You can choose one or more day(s) to participate that would best work for you.

Examples of service projects include:

  • Creating chalk art
  • Making appreciation cards
  • Gathering items for senior homes & children
  • A drive-thru drop-off for dog and cat items
  • And much more!

Compost is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis, until supplies last. Exciting Changes Coming to Birch Hills Golf Course

This month, Birch Hills Golf Course will be rerouting its course and installing a new steel bridge. The rerouting is designed to enhance the customer experience for golfers of all skill levels. A quick five-question survey, available via QR code and printed copy, has been developed to capture the community’s opinion. The survey can be found at the Birch Hills Golf Course front counter, golf carts, and on the City of Brea’s website. As an incentive to participate in the survey, the Birch Hills Golf Course Treehouse Bar and Grill is offering 10% off one’s restaurant bill. The community’s feedback is greatly appreciated. Visit cityofbrea.net/golf to see the new rerouting map and tell us what you think.

Deadline Extended for Build Your Dream Home Challenge

As part of our Housing Element Update, Brea has launched a Build Your Dream Home Challenge. The entire community is encouraged to participate by building, drawing, or creating the ideal home they would like to see in Brea. This activity can be done on a piece of paper, using everyday household items, or on a mobile app like SimCity BuildIt or Minecraft. It can be done on your own or as a team. This challenge will also be conducted with students at Laurel Elementary School, so multiple submissions are allowed. Once completed, simply take a picture or record a video and upload it onto ShapeBrea.net/dream-home-challenge. Enter a submission by Thursday, April 15. Selected submissions will receive a prize and be featured on ShapeBrea.net and the City’s social media accounts.

Take Steps to Control Mosquitos

The recent rains combined with warm weather create the perfect environment for mosquito breeding. Take the time to regularly inspect your property for any stagnant water. Common sources for mosquito breeding include:

  • Plant saucers
  • Buckets
  • Tires
  • Pet water bowls
  • Trash cans
  • Water-holding plants such as bromeliads

Any collected water should be emptied, and containers should be tightly sealed to prevent mosquito entry. Head to ocvector.org for more information.
