Mixed Feelings: Existing in the Space Between

January 24 - March 20, 2026

Opening Reception: Saturday, Jan. 24 | 5-7 PM

Preview Reception: Saturday, Jan. 24 | 4-5 PM

America has a notorious reputation for being the land of immigrants, a melting-pot society of cultures from across the globe. But, through this cultural exchange, and as lineages intersect, how are cultures and traditions preserved through the generations, what is lost, what is gained, and how does one hold on to a memory of a land, a home, that isn’t their own? When society bases your experience and identity on face-value, where do you find a space you belong?

The mixed-race experience is not monolithic, its nuances can be alienating and overwhelming, joyful and painful. Mixed Feelings aims to reflect on these topics of belonging, the negotiation and expression of multiple cultural heritages, and defining your identity in a world confined by “check one” boxes and rigid categories. Through the experiences of 12 artists, this exhibition dives head-first into family archives and history, cultural celebration and adaptation, constructing identity and connections from fragments of understanding, and examining the greater scope of how we view race as a society.

Featuring select paintings from Michael Dixon's Miscegenation Nation and Picaninny 1976, Mary Jo Matsumoto's Half-Asian Artifacts series, glassworks by Netflix's "Blown Away" artist Momoko Schaferdebuting multimedia works from Eunnuri Leenew collaborative works and photographs from Hiroshi Clark's 85 7 20 and Natsuyasami series, lithograph prints and paintings from Derick Edwards, textile works by Emma Kapi'olani Hughes, select paintings from April Werle, Naima White's Unseen Archives series, works by MICA 2023 Solo Show artist Amanda Kazemi, and installations by Bianca Nozaki-Nasser and Malaya Tuyay.

A free opening reception will commence Saturday, January 24 from 5-7 PM. A ticketed Preview Reception will be held on Saturday, January 24 from 4-5 PM with drinks and light refreshments included. Tickets are available for purchase here.
